Does your kid need a new wizard?

"This precious book is a refreshing return to Magic and Folklore, a genre that has too long been dominated by the Potterverse and other franchises. It is best read with a sleepy child curled up in the lap and a cup of sweet tea at hand."

Welcome to the world of the Wizard Aquarius, a land of badly behaved kittens, coconut forests that roam, and a moon that can come down from the sky for teatime and refuse to return home again. Aquarius Featherwing is an inquisitive young wizard who always manages to push the limits of his power a bit too far.

In these eight interlinking stories, magic is intrinsically tied to nature, friendships are told through a culture of animals and humans, and the reader is gently teased and advised throughout into becoming a resilient, and emotionally resourceful adventurer.

Megan Carol Haas

Megan Carol Haas is a creator, entrepreneur, and storyteller whose work spans business, music, and writing. She co-founded the pioneering Utilikilts company, as well as the Front Porch School, in 1993, and the Madrona Village School, a non-profit established in 2020 in rapid response to the pandemic. As a mother, she spun the tales of the wizard Aquarius for her young daughter, blending myth, adventure, and life lessons into bedtime stories. Those stories evolved into her debut book, The Adventures of the Wizard Aquarius, a collection of magical tales for middle-grade readers that weave fantasy with themes of grief, healing, hope, and love.

Megan lives in Seattle, WA, and writes essays on Medium exploring the intersections of health, culture, and technology. She continues to create work that connects imagination, community, and meaningful human experience.

Editorial Reviews

"In The Adventures of the Wizard Aquarius, Haas writes with humor and compassion about honoring one's dreams, caring for the most vulnerable, and the mouthwatering delights of cake and tea. Brave, wise, and generous, Aquarius is the hero I wish I'd had for my children when they were small." - Johanna Stoberock, author of the novels Pigs and City of Ghosts.

"Magic courses through this books veins. Through a visceral connection with plants and animals, the Wizard Aquarius beckons us along for the delightful journey ahead. Highly recommend!" -James Markwiese, Chief Ecology Effects Branch, US Environmental Protection Agency.

Wishing Shelf Award Finalist!

The Wishing Shelf Awards are judged by the people who matter most: real kids. Every year, students in ten primary and secondary schools across the UK, read the entries, vote for their favorites, and send honest feedback straight to the authors. No panels of “experts,” no industry politics — just pure reader joy. It’s one of the few awards where children themselves pick the finalists and winners.

Wishing Shelf Awards – UK student judges

“I liked the magic and that it was funny in parts too. Wizard Aquarius is cool and brave – and a bit mad! I liked this book a lot.” -Student, age 11

“I liked that the wizard was so kind trying to help everybody. I think Featherwing is a cool name and I loved how he transformed into a bird. This is a very easy book to follow and the pacing is good so I was never bored.” -Student, age 12

“Bird magic is best! I loved this book. I liked how every story was a bit different but they were sort of linked too. This book is not scary in any way, it’s just magical! The author is fab at describing stuff too. I think most 8–12 year olds would like this book.” Student, age 12

“Featherwings is the best part at the end. I liked how there was so much animal/bird magic in the story. I thought that was original. I think any 11-year-old would enjoy reading this at bedtime, just a chapter, as it’s not a frightening book but it’s very sweet. I don’t think anybody could dislike Aquarius.”-  Student, aged 12
